'Tall Tales' is Sally Meakins' first solo exhibition at Pepperton Gallery. Meakins' mysterious, strong, dark, and powerful works will intrigue the viewer and draw them into a world that begs questions and answers. The thin line between the real and the surreal are often crossed, leaving a seamless narrative where one feels ever so slightly on edge whilst totally absorbed by the story, the colour, the ambience and the images.
Meakins studied at Central St.Martins in the early 90's. Her sources of influence are from the world of film, literature and a sense of the 'world between worlds'. She also enjoys works by Laurie Anderson, Sophie Calle and Paul Rego.
Meakins says, "I am curious about narrative and its
forms, its possibilities and its playfulness. It is tricky and wilful and delights me with its tall
tales and other stories".
