'Spirit of Sudan'

Press Release

Support Africa…attend “Spirit of Sudan”

If you missed your chance to support Africa through the Live8 concert, you still have the opportunity to support education in Africa by attending a lively art and photographic exhibition. Education Action International (EAI) is giving an opportunity to individuals to contribute to education development in Sudan, on the 30 June 2005 by attending 'Spirit of Sudan'.

'Spirit of Sudan', a collection of inspiring photographs, paintings and sculptures by photographer Ron Coello and artist Richard Plummer, will be on display at the Pepperton Gallery, London, to raise awareness of the situation in Sudan and support EAI’s educational programmes in Africa. The event will be opened by the musician, writer and artist, George Melly.

“Despite the poverty and conflict that has practically destroyed the country, the strength and determination of the people I met was remarkable.  Their schools are built from mud, the classes are overcrowded with little or no resources, yet children love going to school and getting an education”, says Coello.
The exhibition, which is a result of a visit by both artists to Sudan earlier this year, will give an insight into the situation of refugees and displaced people in Sudan and captures the spirit of the Sudanese people in their pursuit of education, despite the ongoing conflict in different parts of the country.
The work of both artists will be available for purchase with all profits going towards the work of Education Action International in Sudan.
